A quick and easy tutorial on how to use Hair Jaw Clips

How do I wear a Hair Jaw Clip?

This is the question I hear many a time at my Pop Up Shops, and I love helping customers find an easy way to style this go-to hair clip in their hair!

Hair Jaw Clips are such a practical accessory. You can carry one in your bag, and whenever it's a bit windy and your hair is blowing everywhere, you just pop it in and feel put-together and sleek.

Hair Jaws are also good in hot weather - just for getting the hair off your face and neck so that you feel refreshed and ready to take on the world.

So when you're on the beach, and it's both hot and windy, I can't think of a better accessory to have with you at the ready!

Hair Jaw Clips are very versatile, and can be worn not only on the beach but in your day to day life - when you're exercising, running around after your kids, off to work, or just running around the shops! They are also popular for weddings and parties to create a glamorous updo.

Hair Jaws can be styled in a multitude of ways, but if you're just getting started with them, the style here is my go-to hair jaw hairstyle.

This hairstyle works for both fine hair and thick hair. As long as your hair is at least shoulder length, it will work well for you.

I remember before I started wearing hair jaw clips, I was unsure how to wear them. Now that I've had quite a bit of practice, and helped thousands of customers style hair jaw clips too, I'm excited to share this quick and easy hairstyle tutorial with you!

Can hair jaws be colourful?

Yes hair jaw clips don't need to be purely practical. Why not wear a colourful and sparkling hair jaw clip to elevate your hairstyle and make you smile!

In this tutorial I've chosen our pink hair jaw clip which holds a good amount of hair. Even if you have thick hair, it is a large enough hair clip to create this easy hairstyle. That's because you are twisting the hair, and the hair jaw just secures the twist in place (it doesn't have to actually grip all of your hair).

If you have fine hair (as I do), it sill works well, has a good grip, and isn't too heavy.

Pink is such a joyful colour, and I love wearing a hair jaw clip that makes me feel fabulous!

1) Start by pulling your hair back into a low ponytail

This style is so simple you can make your hair look fabulous on a windswept beach!

It starts with a low ponytail, gather your hair at the nape of your neck and hold the pony tail in your hands.

If you're on a windy beach and your hair is blowing everywhere, don't worry! You'll soon have your tresses in check with your hair clip, and a few stray strands will add to the laid-back charm of the hairstyle.

2) Twist the length of your hair into a rope

This works whether you have long hair like me, or shoulder length hair to make a short rope.

I'm right handed, and you can see in this photo I'm using my left hand to twist the hair, while my right hand is securing the base of the ponytail in place at the nape of my neck.

3) Hold the length of your hair up to create the updo!

Now your hair is secured in the twisted "rope" you can let go of the hand at the nape of your neck, and hold the length of your hair up at the back of your head.

If you have very long hair then you might need to twist the top of the rope back down again, or tuck the ends in.

If your hair is medium length or shoulder length, they the "rope" may just go half way up your head. That works well too!

4) Here's where your Hair Jaw Clip comes in!

Now your colourful hair jaw clip is at the ready to secure your hair in place.

You have 2 options with this hairstyle - either tuck the hair back over and keep things slick, or wear the end of your hair loose for a relaxed finish, as I have in the photos below.

Finally, pop your pink hair jaw over the top of the rope of hair, and it will keep your updo hairstyle in place beautifully.

The twisting plus the hair jaw works wonders to create a gorgeous and very easy hairstyle!

5) Et Voila! Your Hair Jaw is keeping your hair in place so you can enjoy your day!

Now your hair jaw hairstyle is in place, you're set to go for a walk, do the chores, go for a splash in the sea - anything your heart desires - all without your hair blowing in your face!

This is a wonderfully secure hairstyle that is not only glamorous but also brilliantly practical.

I first discovered hair jaws when I became a mother and had to tie my hair up for the first time (long hair is not great for nappy changing) - and I still find hair jaws to be an incredibly handy accessory.

6) Your Hair Jaw Hairstyle oozes laid-back glamour

This hairstyle keeps you feeling put-together, and if you do go for a hair jaw that has a touch of colour or sparkle like my pink hair jaw, it can really elevate your look and make you feel fabulous.

Why not channel your inner screen siren and wear a jewelled hair jaw. Clip it in and suddenly you're an off-duty movie star, holidaying in Mustique!
