Half Up Half Down Hair

Half Up Half Down Hair: Your Go-To for Classic Chic

The best thing about Half Up Half Down Hair is that it's not only classically elegant, it's also delightfully practical too.

When you want to feel put-together - with your hair neatly swept back into place, yet you also love the freedom of wearing your hair down, then half up hair is the go-to.

With half up hair, you are saved the irritation of hair falling in your face, and yet you also have the opportunity to show off your gorgeous tresses! You show up in the world as polished and powerfully feminine.

Here I am with my hair swept back in a half up ponytail, and I've added a favourite pearl headband to the hairstyle. The headband not only makes sure that no stray strands come loose, but also elevates the hairstyle with a pretty touch.

I believe we should allow ourselves the time to play with our hair, to have fun getting creative and expressing ourselves. Using hair accessories like hair claws and colourful hair clips is a great way to do this! Hair Bows and even chain headbands work brilliantly too.

With creativity in mind, here are QueenMee's Top 5 Ways to Wear your Hair Half Up. Have fun experimenting!

1) Wear your Hair Half Up in a Hair Claw Clip

Hair claws are a firm favourite with my customers and me. They are so simple to style, and ooze easy luxe as well.

Our wide range of Hair Claws, allows you to add colour and sparkle to your half up hairstyle, to lift your look, and always make you smile as you're getting ready in the morning.

We have used our Pink Crystal Hair Claw for the perfect touch of girly glamour in the photo above- you could even add a curl to your hair like we have to dress it up for any evening event you may have - You'll still have time for a glass of bubbly with this hairstyle.

To create the hairstyle above, all you have to do is gather half your hair into a ponytail and then shape into a twist - next secure with your claw and you are ready to sparkle all day and night.

This is a classic hairstyle that works just as well for relaxed weekends as for a work day or the school run. The sparkling hair claw adds enough polish to make it a gorgeous hairstyle for evenings on your summer holidays too.

If you prefer a smaller hair claw then a great option for your half up half down hair is our Flower Hair Accessory.

We have used our Flower Hair Accessory with Gems in Pink for this hairstyle - it's very simple to achieve this pretty look. There are no twists or curling, simply pull your hair back and secure with the small hair clip. If you have fine hair, your hairstyle might feel extra secure if you wear a hair tie underneath the hair claw

It only takes seconds to create this half up half down hairstyle, but it will leave you feeling like the belle of the ball!

2) Wear your Hair Half Up with a Hair Bow Clip

Hair Bows are just stunning to add to your Half Up Half Down Hair and add a chic, vintage-inspired touch in seconds. With our wide range of Hair Bows in a variety of colours, you can opt for just the right accessory to finish your outfit.

Try a classic black hair bow for a day at work, and then swap it out for our lilac hair bow that you can see I'm wearing in the photo below for a summer picnic.

For an alternative half up hairstyle, try twisting your hair to the back on either side, as we have in the photo below. This adds a particularly playful detail to your hairstyle.

3) Wear your Hair Half Up with a Chain Headband

Delicate silver chain headband embellished with small crystal detailing in a slim design.

When I help customers at my Pop Up Shops, I find that some are a little flummoxed by  Chain Headbands, and unsure how to style them.

Well, here's the answer - wearing your hair half up is a great way to style your chain headband, as you can see from the photo above! The silver daisy chain headband adds a pretty point of interest, and also serves to hold the hair in place with the elastic that's at the back.

Here I am wearing my favourite gold chain headband. I love the way it adds easy chic to your hairstyle. It's a great hairstyle for a pub date, when you want to look relaxed, but you still want your hair to look luxe!

As you can see in the photo above, you place the chain headband over the top of your head to create this look (so it sits over the hair).

Then my hair is gently swept back at the side, and next tucked around the elastic, to hold it in place.

This is a half up half down hairstyle that also creates volume at the crown of your head. As someone with fine hair, I'm always looking for that volume boost!

I always receive a lot of compliments when I wear my hair half up like this, and if you're looking for a laid-back half up hairstyle that's a bit different - definitely try this!

4)  Wear your Half Up Half Down for Wedding Guest Hair

For Wedding Guest hair, a classic half up half down hairstyle with a barrette works beautifully for elegant style.

This is a timeless look that is the modern equivalent of a fascinator. It rises to the occasion in terms of adding a statement hair accessory to your hair, yet has the brilliant benefit that the barrette keeps the hair off your face as you dance the night away!

In the hairstyle above we've chosen our red flower hair clip for head-turning sparkle.

A statement clip like this works well for thick hair.

If like me, you have fine hair, it can still work for you too, just use our styling trick - wear a hair bobble under the barrette to keep your hair extra secure. That's what I'm doing in the photo below, and I can vouch for the fact that this large hair clip stays in place in my fine hair well enough for me to dance away, with the hair bobble underneath!

Alternatively, if you have fine hair you can opt for a smaller barrette for the same effect, like this gold pearl hair clip with diamante.

If your hair is super fine, then you could still use the hair bobble trick underneath; but if your hair is medium-fine like mine, then this size of hair barrette will work beautifully to secure your half up hairstyle on its own.

5) Wear your Half Up Half Down Hair with a Headband

Last but not least - I would highly recommend adding a jewelled headband to your half up hairstyle to transform your classic hairstyle into a head-turner!

Sparkly navy blue padded headband embellished with crystal detailing.

This hairstyle will make you feel like the main character when you're at a special event, and is perfect for a glamorous wedding guest hairstyle too.

To create this hairstyle, back-comb your hair in sections at the crown, then smooth back into place, so you've got that Bardot volume at the back.

Next bring strands of your hair from the front, and pin gently at the back of your head with hair grips or pins. If you add a wave to the hair as we have in the photo here, the strands will look particularly pretty as they hang down.

Pinning the strands at the back to create your half up hairstyle also emphasises the volume at the crown, for extra glamour.

Finally, add your sparkling headband to complete the screen siren look! We've used our Sparkly Headband in Navy Blue for that movie-star finish.
