How to put your Hair in a Claw Clip: 3 Easy Ways

Why should I try a hair claw clip?

I discovered the magic of hair claw clips when I had my first baby and had to tie my long hair up all the time. My hair was always getting in the way when I was playing with her, or feeding her, and it just had to go up, and off my face!

You can see in the photo below when I went a wedding, I created a half up hairstyle with a hair claw - which meant that I felt glamorous, but was able to take care of her without my hair getting in the way.

When I had my first baby I had never had to wear my hair up before, and I didn't really know where to start. I tried out hair claw clips for the first time, and I loved the way they can create shape and volume in your hair.

Plain hair claw clips in black or brown didn't make me feel like my most sparkling self, and so I started designing my own hair claw clips and adding jewels to them. The combination of the colourful and sparkling hair clips with the versatile hairstyles meant I felt like my most glamorous self, even when I was adjusting to my new life as a mother.

Hair claw clips are a fantastic choice if you are a new mother like I was, or maybe your career calls for you to wear your hair up?

For many of us, wearing our hair in a fabulous updo just helps us feel more put-together and glamorous, whether we are just going about our daily errands or we are off to a party, christening, or wedding.

The beauty of hair claws is that they can create a hairstyle that is both practical and chic, so that you always feel your best. Say goodbye to bad hair days and hello to hair claws!

So I would encourage you to try out a hair claw clip - have fun experimenting with these styles, and for extra feel-good factor - choose a hair claw with a few sparkles.

How do I use a hair claw clip?

This is a question I hear many a time at my Pop Up Shops, and I am delighted to run through the basic hair claw hairstyles with you, so you can discover some of the easiest ways to wear this very versatile hair accessory.

There are a multitude of ways to style hair claw clips, but when you're starting out, it's good to have a handful of go-to hairstyles up your sleeve.

Hair claws are delightfully easy to style. You can create stunning hair updos in seconds without having to worry about braiding or complicated updos.

When you're experimenting with a new hair claw hairstyle, the trick is not to worry too much about how polished the hairstyle you create is, but to embrace a laid-back look that may have a few undone strands.

If you grab yourself a second mirror so that you can see your hair at the back, this will give you extra confidence to experiment with a new hair claw hairstyle.

Just have fun and enjoy trying something new! Whether your hair is fine, thick, short, or long, there is a hair claw clip hairstyle that can work for you. Read on to discover your go-to hair claw clip hairstyles...

1) Hair Half Up with a Hair Claw is a Style Classic

Half up hairstyles are always chic, and when you create a half up hairstyle with a hair claw, you have the benefit of being able to add extra volume at the crown of your head.

To create this hairstyle, simply pull strands away from your face towards the back of the head, and secure with your hair claw. To create extra volume at the crown, push the hair up at the back before gripping with the hair claw

This hairstyle allows you to keep your hair away from your face, whilst also accentuating the rest of your locks if you enjoy wearing part of your hair down

To make the look extra glamorous, add some waves in your hair as we have in the photo above here.

This half-up hairstyle works well with small hair claws (if you have fine hair), as well as medium-sized hair claws, like we have used in the photo above.

Try adding a colourful hair claw to uplift your mood and make you feel like your most sparkling self. We've used our blue hair claw, as you can see in the photo. It's a royal blue which works beautifully with this classic hairstyle, and elevates the hairstyle in an instant.

In short, a half up half down hairstyle with hair claw has to be the hands-down winner, if you want a hairstyle that is very glamorous, and very quick and easy to create!

2) Wear your hair in a full updo secured with a hair claw

For days when you want full practicality and to secure all of your hair in an updo, then there is no better hair accessory to turn to than a hair claw.

To create this hairstyle, simply create a ponytail at the base of your head, twist the hair into a rope, and hold upwards. If your hair is long, then twist that rope back down again on itself. Then you pop a large hair claw clip over the hair to secure it all in place.

Even if you have thick hair, our large hair claw clip in gold holds all of your hair. I know it can be hard to find hair claws big enough when you have thick hair, but helping you feel your best, whatever your hair type, is our specialty here at QueenMee Accessories!

This hairstyle oozes laid back chic, and is perfect for weekends and summer holidays. Think lounging by the pool with a cocktail in hand, with your gold hair claw clip shimmering gently in the sunlight!

It's also great for country walks where it may be windy, for exercising when you need to have your hair up and in check, or for hot weather when you can't wait to get your hair off your neck.

If you need to wear your hair fully up on a daily basis, then this easy and stylish updo has to be your go-to choice. To feel glamorous, I would highly recommend opting for a gentle touch of sparkle when you choose your hair claw.

Our gold hair claw clip in the photo above delivers just that, with its subtle shimmer, or try our eye-catching diamante large hair claw for high-octane glamour!

When your hair is full up and secured with a shimmering hair claw, you can't help but feel fabulous!

3) Create a bun and clip your hair claw to secure it at the side

This hairstyle is a personal favourite of mine, and it is deceptively simple to create.

Start with your hair in a low ponytail again, but this time twist it around into a circular bun. Then you can secure the end of the bun into place at the side with your hair claw.

For extra allure, create an asymmetric hairstyle by twisting the bun on one side of your head, as we have in the photo here.

A medium-sized hair claw like this green hair claw will do the trick. You'll be surprised at how secure the bun feels, kept in place with a hair claw in this way.

You may have a few loose strands, but that is part of the charm of this glamorous and easy-chic hairstyle.

If you prefer a neat look, then simply pin any loose strands into place with some hair grips.

You'll love how much this hairstyle will elevate your daily hair routine. It's great for summer holidays (when your hair may be a little windswept), or any time you'd like to get all of your hair out of the way in one chic and easy updo!

There's something about a bun which oozes red-carpet glamour, so if you are heading for a night out, or you are off to a special event or wedding, then this may be your hair claw hairstyle of choice.

Don't forget to add some statement earrings, and coordinate with your sparkling hair claw for a show-stopping look!

Green butterfly brooch with gold detailing and crystal embellishments, sparkling insect design used as elegant hair accessory.

For a variation on this bun with hair claw hairstyle, try creating a mini bun with your hair half up, as we have in the photo below.

This mini bun is perfect if your hair isn't long enough to create a full bun, or you just want to wear your hair half up half down, so that you still have some length left on show.

Silver crystal butterfly brooch with pearl centre, elegant sparkling design used as a decorative hair accessory.

In this photo, we've used our silver hair claw clip, which, as you can see is very striking against dark hair. It's also a great choice if you wear silver jewellery and you like to keep your tones consistent with your accessories.

This silver hair clip will work with any of your outfits, and just add a touch of uplifting sparkle!
